Van Gundy gives the best actor award to Reggie EvansWhile playing the Denver Nuggets, Houston Rockets center Yao Ming picked up two offensive foul charging calls while being defended by Reggie Evans.  Jeff Van Gundy sees Evans’ defense more as flopping rather than Yao dipping the shoulder into Evans.  Jeff Van Gundy is about to give Evans the Oscar award for best acting, here is what he said:

“I am so sick of watching that guy flop I can’t stand it. It is an absolute disgrace what he does,” Van Gundy said. “Those two fouls he supposedly drew on Yao [Ming] the other night were a joke—jumping into the front row. The NBA’s got to do something about it.” -  Houston Chronicle

Reggie Evans you have just been served by a short Jewish coach who is most known for humping Alonzo Mourning’s leg.

Kirby Puckett dies yesterday at the age of 45It is a sad day in the baseball world as reports have confirmed Kirby Puckett passed away yesterday after suffering a stroke.  Puckett was in his Phoenix, Arizona home when the stroke occurred.  Kirby had seemed to lose control of his health after his playing days, particularly with weight gain.  Puckett, who was divorced, is survived by two children and his fiance.  He will forever be remembered as the hero of Game 6 in the 1991 World Series against the Atlanta Braves as a member of the Minnesota Twins.  The Hall of Famer, won two world championships playing for the Twins, the other title coming in 1987 versus the St. Louis Cardinals.

Shaun Alexander if off the market The Seattle Seahawks were able to do what the Indianapolis Colts were not able to do, re-signing their star running back to a multi year deal.  The reigning MVP has been rewarded with a eight year, $62 million extension, with $15.1 million guaranteed.  Seattle’s focus will now be on WR Joe Jurevicius, who is a free agent as well.  Edgerrin James’ most attractive potential suitor seems to be the Minnesota Vikings.

The New York Knicks are terrible The only good thing that comes from the New York Knicks playing so bad this season is that the corporate big-wigs are giving up their seats every so often, so I was able to check out the Knicks Friday night loss in heart-breaking fashion to the Chicago Bulls in the front row.  The celebrities this time in MSG were Adam Sandler, Ja Rule, and Kevin Bacon - all sitting next to each other.

Watching from the front row, I was directly behind Brandon Tierney of 1050 ESPN radio and had a few observations.  The speed of the game is amazingly fast, it is played at a much faster pace than it looks on television, and even from other seating sections.  If a guard blows by his man, the big guys helping out to block the shot have to react instantaneously, otherwise it’s going to be a lay-up for the opposing team.

Well, up close in personal, you can see that none of the Knicks players play with passion or any intensity except for Channing Frye.  Francis and Marbury are trying some of the time, but both are either being moody, arguing with referees and not getting back on defense and are just plain not inspiring teammates.  Curry and Crawford look horrible, aside from the occasional Sportcenter highlight type moves, otherwise they are both very overrated - their stats do not reflect their actual impact on the game.  Marbury also does not get any of the questionable calls going his way from the referees, especially with him going to the basket.

For more sorrows and commentary, here is another suffering New York Knicks fan.  For this will surely be the very last time mentioning the pitiful Knicks for the rest of this season, I promise you that.

Donovan McNabb parks in handicapped spots Not only did they get busted for parking in an illegal spot, but they skipped out on their court date as well.  If these guys miss their next rescheduled court date, they might be charged with contempt by Judge Springman.  Wow guys, I think you guys in the Eagles locker room have been watching too much Judge Dredd, because you fellas must think about one of it’s famous lines: “I never broke the law. I am the law!”  Maybe McNabb thinks he is handicapped considering he gets injured all the time.  Terrell Owens is no longer the only Eagles player acting crazy and now the team can probably pitch for a reality TV show, Eagles Behaving Badly.

Alfonso Soriano pic from espnSoriano is off to play second base in the World Baseball Classic and does not want to come back to play the outfield.  When the World Baseball Classic ends in three weeks, Soriano is hoping the Washington Nationals have accommodated for him, or else.  Well what exactly is “what else”?  Whose to say for sure, does it mean, trade 2B Jose Vidro?  Move Vidro to the outfield?  Or trade Soriano to another team?  Well Nationals General Manager Jim Bowden sure doesn’t have the answer.  Bowden states: “We’ve been pretty clear about being unclear,”.  Wow, kudos to you Bowden, you sound almost as convincing as Isiah Thomas, promising Knick fans that Marbury/Francis will work itself out just as well as Isiah Thomas/ Joe Dumars or Walt Fraizer/Earl Munroe.

Tim Thomas may be headed to PhoenixLife just isn’t fair sometimes.  Why should a player like Tim Thomas, who refused to play all year for the Chicago Bulls, gets to keep his entire ‘05-‘06 salary which is 13.9 million dollars, clear waivers then gets to sign with the Phoenix Suns for even more money?  Not only does he get to play for a good team, but he is getting paid extra for it.  Tim Thomas better at least bring some more funny sound bites like the “fugazy” comment to the table.  Every team Thomas has played for has been left with a sour taste in their mouth - all the way back to his college days in Villanova, where Wildcat fans were disappointed to see him leave after just one year of college ball.

Miguel Cabrera signs for 472k
One of the few players on next year’s Marlins team that baseball fans will know, Miguel Cabrera signs for a measley $472,000 yearly salary.  That is peanuts compared to the some of the other contracts in the major leagues.  The New York Yankees alone had a median salary of $5,833,334.  Cabrera must be itching for the day he becomes eligible for arbitration.  Cabrera has been so good in his first three years in the big leagues, he has been statistically compared to Hall of Famer, Hank Aaron at the same stages of their careers.

Dante Culpepper being singled out?
The Minnesota Viking Love-Boat scandal that just won’t go away has reared it’s ugly head again.  Culpepper’s lawyers are stating that the prosecutor is racially discriminating against Culpepper by just going after Culpepper and his teammate Moe Williams, but not against the boat captain or the club manager who provided the girls as entertainment, who are both white.  Poor Dante, first Randy Moss yells at him on the sidelines, then he gets injured last season, and now this.  We want to see Culpepper smiling again so he can do the basketball referee “traveling call” dance after throwing for a touchdown.

James Gandolfini at the New Jersey Nets game
Alright Knick fans, it is time to start worrying about losing the Hollywood/celebrity fan base to the New Jersey Nets.  The other famous face that is a frequently appearing at the Continental Airlines Arena is famous rapper Jay-Z.  Jay-Z is from Brooklyn, NY and is minority owner of the New Jersey Nets, who is perhaps looking into moving the team to Brooklyn. Gandolfini is a New Jersey native and sure has pride of his home state, and is rooting his team on.  Here is Gandolfini spotted at yesterday’s game versus the Indiana Pacers.
